YOUTH-TO-YOUTH

EPs got this!

European Parliament is like, whatever.”

Shaking off the belief that “we can’t make a difference” is tough, isn’t it?

#ShakeItOff here

Unfortunately, the general lack of interest in political processes is common and not a new topic at all. We’ve decided to try to do something about that and make it at least a bit more acceptable. We even dare you to eventually change the gear to active participation. Crazy, huh? 😉 In the time leading up to the election of MEPs, which will take place from 6 to 9 June 2024, we’re respectfully and gently inviting you to follow the facts about the EP, and then use your voice in the elections.

EU Europas Untergang #europe #eu #europeanunion #vonderleyen #ursulavonderleyen #freespeech #eukommission #euwahl2024 #euelections2024 ...

In less than 24 hours, the far-right, newly emboldened in this election cycle, silenced a critical discussion on equality at the europeanparliament.

We are appalled by the EP`s decision to postpone a crucial workplace inclusion roundtable featuring maboulasoumahoro, the founder of Black History Month #France and a visiting columbia professor. Following a targeted social media campaign led by the French far-right last week, the event has been delayed and is at risk of being cancelled entirely.

It’s not an abstract concern – it’s happening right now. The far-right`s gains in the #EUelections2024 are not just a frightening reality. In less than a day, they successfully pressured the leaders of the europeanparliament to censor a vital conversation meant to advance inclusion. This blatant assault on the fight for equality within the EU is entirely unacceptable.

We strongly condemn any and all decisions to bow to far-right pressure and stand in unwavering solidarity with maboulasoumahoro. We cannot, and will not, allow the far-right to stifle the work of anti-racism advocates.

We cannot allow this to pass unnoticed. The europeanparliament must act now to safeguard #equality.

    We want EYE Brežice to leave the tiniest environmental and carbon footprint as possible, so we gently encourage you to decide to act sustainably. NOTE: Public transport infrastructure in Slovenia can sometimes be… ehm … let’s call it mission impossible or a looong-lasting relationship. 😉 But still, if possible, give it a chance.

    Brežice is easily accessible by train from Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Zagreb (Croatia). Both cities have airports. You can find the train schedule here.

    The city also has a good bus connection. A regional bus to Ljubljana runs regularly. You can find the bus schedule here.

    info@mreza-mama.si; +386 30 618 628

    If you’ll still feel hungry despite the organized meals, you can walk on your own to Bakery Suban (Pekarstvo Suban) (5 minutes walk from Institute for Entrepreneurship, Tourism and Youth Brežice), grocery store Mercator market (7 minutes walk from Institute for Entrepreneurship, Tourism and Youth Brežice), or treat yourself with a croissant or pizza at Klub MC Brežice, which is part of Institute for Entrepreneurship, Tourism and Youth Brežice.

    In which language will the activities take place?

    The primary language of communication at EYE Brežice will be Slovenian. Spoken Slovenian will also be supported by interpretation into Slovenian sign language, if so asked for and confirmed within the application phase. The opening and closing ceremonies will be simultaneously translated into English, as well as all activities that will be taking place in the multipurpose hall at Institute for Entrepreneurship, Tourism and Youth Brežice. Cultural artistic colonies and other central activities will be carried out with the explanation in English or completely in English.

    We invite you to state all your needs and desires through your application to maximize your involvement. We will do our best to support you. Pinky promise!

    How will environmental protection and natural resource conservation be ensured at the event?

    EYE Brežice will be an opportunity to reflect on and test how each of us can leave the smallest possible carbon and environmental footprint while organising and participating in various activities. In doing so, we reject any greenwashing and encourage all participants to think and act independently towards sustainable environmental decisions. Measures used at EYE Brežice include:

    • minimizing printed materials and maximizing digital versions of materials;
    • Institute for Entrepreneurship, Tourism and Youth Brežice recognizes that sustainable development is a long-term engagement that enables healthy and sustainable development in the future. With certifications such as the Green Key for the YC Club Brežice, International Quality and Sustainability (HI-Q & S) for YC Hostel Brežice, and Zero Waste for events, they have become part of the Slovenian green tourism scheme;
    • using ceramic plates and glassware where possible;
    • rational consumption of food and tap water;
    • waste sorting;
    • young green guardians who will subtly encourage participants to make more sustainable decisions through peer-to-peer informing;
    • selection of food vendors offering sustainable packaging and using locally sourced food, thereby supporting local producers and shortening supply chains;
    • promoting the use of sustainable forms of mobility for arrival, departure and while staying in Brežice.

    How will my safety, health and inclusion be ensured at the event?

    EYE Brežice is accessible to all young people regardless of any personal circumstances (religious beliefs, gender, disability, health issues, learning difficulties, nationality, ethnicity, economic status, political or sexual orientation, etc.). Constructive dialogue, seeking and implementing measures for greater inclusion of different individuals, zero tolerance for any form of hatred, violence and discrimination are the foundations of the event.

    We are aware that EYE Brežice is taking place during a time marked by various conflicts and traumatic events. We firmly believe that European democracy also provides a space for organised protests, peaceful demonstrations and at times emotional expressions of opinion. EYE Brežice is not a protest or a demonstration but an event for young people to constructively and peacefully exchange their opinions, viewpoints and ideas about the future of Europe. We – the organisers of EYE Brežice respectfully call upon all participants to engage in tolerant, peaceful and constructive dialogue on different opinions about the future of Europe, so that the event can be carried out in the spirit of mutual acceptance, peaceful exchange of views and the building of a healthy European community.

    We will strive to make the EYE Brežice experience as pleasant, educational and inclusive as possible for everyone.

    We count on you to contribute your part to the culture of acceptance. #WeGotThis

    The main venue of EYE Brežice will be the Institute for Entrepreneurship, Tourism and Youth Brežice, because like all other youth centres in Slovenia, it is an open, safe civic space that is mindful to include all young people, regardless of their personal circumstances. Their facilities are also accessible to people with disabilities and they hold the Quality Label for Youth Centres certificate awarded by the Council of Europe. It therefore places a special emphasis on promoting the values, approaches and standards of the Council of Europe through education on human rights. Only 15 youth centres in Europe boast this label and the Institute for Entrepreneurship, Tourism and Youth Brežice is the only one in Slovenia.

    During EYE Brežice a “time-out place” will be available in the kitchen area of MC Hostel Brežice (just next to the premises of Institute for Entrepreneurship, Tourism and Youth Brežice), where you can retreat, if needed, at any time during the activities within the event. The entrance to the ” time-out place” in the kitchen of MC Hostel Brežice is through the main entrance of the hostel right or through the side entrance of the hostel (from the atrium) left along the hallway.

    If anyone needs medical assistance, the Brežice General Hospital is only 1 km away from the Institute for Entrepreneurship, Tourism and Youth Brežice, and it is available 24/7. In case of emergency call 112.

    There are two pharmacies in Brežice located at Trdinova ulica 1 and Černerlčeva cesta 8.

    Professional security services will ensure safety at the concert evenings, while the field team from the association DrogArt will be responsible for internal safety and health of every individual. #StaySafe

    Who organises EYE Brežice?

    The Youth Network MaMa is a national network organisation that brings together 55 youth centres from all over Slovenia. It works towards qualitative youth work, organises trainings for youth workers, encourages active citizenship and participation and helps build a society of healthy relationships. Through the national web portal mlad.si, which is managed by MaMa, it informs Slovenian young people and organisations in the youth field (youth centres, youth organisations, youth councils, etc.) about opportunities, results, effects of youth work and current youth-related topics.
